Shred Soles Review

I bought a pair of Shred Soles the first week they were available… well in fact lets start at a different place. Oh the woe that is my feet and the issues I have from them. My friends refer to them as the “circus feet”. My right foot is a half size larger than my left and I have high arches. Not just kinda high but stupid high like these on the left  only a bit worse. See the little points where the two sections ALMOST  touch? Well yeah I dont have those. Its not fun and its definitely not conducive to being bound in snowboard boots for 6 hours at a time over 1oo days a year. To top that off I have fairly skinny ( i.e. non meaty) ankles but  enormous ankle bones. They protrude pretty far out and this ankle combo makes for getting heal lift easily ( and a crapload of rolled ankles in the summer skate season). For these reasons finding a good footbed is a must. Ive tried everything from $10 off the shelf DrScholls Gel Insoles to some of the higher end specialty stuff. Recently Nate Musson launched his venture into the genre under the name of Shred Soles. Nate touts his product as “the only snowboarding specific insole” and they have a retail price of $44.95 which is a standard pricepoint for this product. I got my Shred Soles within a week of ordering them online and right out the package I knew that these were going to be great for me.  The Shred Soles have a noticeable arch in them which will ensure great support for someone  such as me. The arches in them however have a good flex and therefore should feel supportive not stiff or uncomfortable for anyone with a normal sized arch.  The heel has a small cushion pad on the underside and a really nice cup on the top side to really help anchor you into your boot. The body of the Shred Sole is made of a product they call DuraShred which is a shape forming material.  All of the materials are ani-fungal, anti-bacterial, odor inhibiting and allow the Shred Sole to “breathe” while in use.  Finally the Shred Soles come with a 90 day money back guaranty so theres really little risk when you purchase them. I have used the Shred Soles in my Northwave NBoots for the last five or so weeks. First off my boots are obviously loose on my smaller foot  and the Shred Sole helped fill that spacing thus giving me a better feel when riding.  Ive waited on a review because I wanted to see if over time the the DuraShred form fitting material packed in. Im happy to report that after extensive riding the DuraShred has not packed in and the insoles still give me the same support and boot fill now as they did the first day I wore them. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give about Shred Soles is that on March 2nd I hung around at the base of the Milly Lift at Brighton to enjoy the festivities of the annual 32 Day contest ( get it March 2nd .. 32 day ). I watched the railjam, talked to a few reps/friends, and then watched the awards ceremony. When it was all over ( about three hours) I went back to the car and realized my boots were still laced up for riding. I had not even noticed that the entire three hours of standing around. Overall I think these are a great product and would recommend them to anyone searching for an after market insole and would highly recommend them to anyone with high arches looking for support.
