It’s a Capita… the tale of my Capita journey this season
Early in the season ( November or so) I purchased my Capita/Sierrasnowboards collaboration board the Sierrascope. Its one of my most favorite boards that Ive owned but of course its a Capita and whether right or wrong they have the reputation as being fragile boards. Most people Ive talked too will either whole heartedly agree or disagree there doesnt seem to be a huge amount of middle ground. I did notice the topsheet seemed to nick or chip easily but I didnt have any of the delam issues that Ive seen from forum posts. Boy did that all change. One day I was hitting a wall ride in Brightons upper park. This particular wall ride is made with parallel 2×4′s not with a solid sheet of wood or HDPE. When I got to the bottom of the hill that day I pick up my board and what do you know the nose had peeled on the base about 1/2 an inch. SaltyPeaks hooked me up with an amazing repair but after only a few weeks of riding on it I started to wonder if this Capita was going to make it through the season especially since to be honest Im brutal on boards.
All went well over the next 6 weeks then all went to hell. Coming through some trees on three day old snow I slipped out and smacked right into a tree and SNAP the board broke. Literally when it happened
I said out loud “Are you fucking kidding me?” because I was really just barely moving through the trees. It was an impact that really was no more severe than as if I were gapping out to a rail. Luckily I was able to make it down the hill on the board to the car because I for sure didnt want to do the on hill version of the walk of shame. Well I guess I knew then that Capitas wouldnt hold up to my riding but little did I know that the adventure was only beginning. I posted the story on www.snowboardingforum.com but not to bitch but just to say “Wow check this out”. At some point a Sierrasnowboards CSR happened on the thread and contacted me via private message on the forums. He said that they would help me out and get things right. Well thats sounds all well and good but there was a catch. I never actually bought the board from Sierrasnowboards. I bought it new in the wrapper off E-bay from a kid who had purchased it from Sierra. I told the CSR that I didnt make any attempt to contact Sierra for that reason. I just didnt feel like it was cool to go after them for a warranty when they never received any money from me in the first place. Well the CSR got back with me and told me that was not an issue and because I had been so stoked on the product and given such good word of mouth they would still ship me out a new one. So now here at the end of the season Im still on my Sierrascope and enjoying the ride thanks to Sierrasnowboards for the customer service! Of course now Im tentative on it and I already put a near core shot on the second one the first week of having it. Im down with Capita but Im just afraid their boards cant handle my riding. Pity….
END OF SEASON UPDATE..
Now that its July and the season here in SLC officially ended over the fourth I thought Id update this post. I really love this board, especially the FK tech, and despite the issues I had with it Id buy another Capita. Late in the season I won a Rome board so I will obviously put some time in on it early in the season but I still consider this Capita my main board.

Thats funny. My Sierrascope has had similar nose peeling issues, fixed by Salty Peaks but it never really held up either. We also both ride Brighton. Stupid comment but our stories are so similar its ridiculous.(Without the snapping, of course.)
Ive noticed a few Sierras up there .. Kit the liftie rides a 152 … Im on my replacement one now .. see you at Brighton!
